Avondale will aim to maintain its strong start to the season when they face Port Melbourne at JL Murphy Reserve on Saturday evening.

The Avengers have good form against the Sharks, winning three out of their four previous encounters and also boast a good record at JL Murphy Reserve, running out winners on the past three occasions.

Avondale sit on top of the table with nine points ahead of Port Melbourne who are seventh after three rounds. Last time these sides met, Avondale recorded a 1-0 win away from home with vice-captain Jonathan Germano scoring the only goal of the game.

Avondale have the best attack in the league with 12 goals so far this year, lead by the quartet of Kaine Sheppard, Elvis Kamsoba, Joey Katebian and Liam Boland and will be a challenge for Port Melbourne to contain.

Port Melbourne are coming off their maiden victory for 2018 with a 1-0 win over Kingston City in mid-week but will be without their summer recruit and talisman Sam Smith who is serving a three-game suspension picked up at Green Gully in round one.

With two games remaining before a break for the FFA Cup, the Avengers will be looking to build on a solid start to their league campaign.
