Match Day 8 – Preview

Hume City 7:00pm @ ABD Stadium – Saturday April 6th

Avondale will look to continue their record-breaking start to the season when they face off against Hume City away this Saturday night.

The Avengers are flying high after a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Melbourne Knights in a top-of-the-table showdown and will looking to win their eighth-straight game.

Hume got off to a hot start to the season and were sitting on top of the table after the first two rounds, but since then they’ve found the going tougher, only managing one win in their last five games.

Their win came two weeks ago in the form of a comprehensive 5-1 win over Dandenong City, but any high they might be feeling from that result has surely vanished after a thumping 5-1 loss at the hands of Port Melbourne last week.

If City want to bounce back against Avondale they’ll have to do it the hard way – they’ll need to find a way to contain the league’s highest scoring team and score against the league’s top defence.

Avondale have been in scorching-hot form, winning all seven of their games this season. The Azuri are also still yet to trail at any stage this season. Liam Boland has scored a league-high nine goals, while Stefan Zinni and Tasuku Sekiya have scored four and three goals respectively.

A win would extend Avondale’s longest-ever winning streak, while securing their five-point lead on top of the table.

Impact players:
James Brown – Hume’s top scorer for the season, Brown has netted five goals this year.

Ersin Kaya – A speedy forward, Kaya’s fancy footwork and quick runs can wreak havoc on opposition defenses.

Last year:
Hume City 2 – 5 Avondale
Avondale 3 – 0 Hume City
