Match Day 15 – PREVIEW

Avondale will hit the road to take on the Port Melbourne Sharks this Saturday at JL Murphy Reserve at 6:00pm.

It will be a huge game for the Avengers who will be desperate to break their current run of bad form. After winning 12 of their first 13 games to start the season, the Azzurri are now winless in their last four games, during which they’ve seen their lead on top of the table shrink to just four points.

Avondale will also be hoping to bounce back from a tough mid-week loss to the Melbourne Knights that saw them knocked out of the FFA Cup.

Despite only sitting in ninth on the table, Port Melbourne will be a tricky opponent. The Sharks have been tough to score against having only conceded 18 goals this season, the equal third-lowest in the league.

Avondale still boast the league’s most potent offence but have struggled in recent weeks to find the back on the net, having only scored three goals in their last four games.

A win would be crucial for the Avengers, helping to maintain their lead on top of the table. Meanwhile three points would be mighty handy for Port, who sit only four points clear of the relegation playoff spot and could soon find themselves in a relegation scrap.
