Match Day 21 – PREVIEW

Avondale will be looking to bring their two game losing streak to an end when they take on Hume City in a must-win clash this Saturday.

The Avengers will be desperate for a win after suffering back-to-back defeats, falling 2-1 to Green Gully and 2-0 to the Melbourne Knights, losses have seen their lead on top of the table shrink to just four pints.

Avondale will now face a tough opponent in Hume as they look to return to the winners’ list. City sit fourth on the ladder and have won three of their last five games, including a win over Heidelberg.

Hume were also the first team to take points off Avondale this season when the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at ABD Stadium back in round eight.

The Avengers will also see their squad depth tested with several players out due to injury and suspension.

The pressure will certainly be on Avondale to claim all three points this weekend. Second-placed Heidelberg currently sit four points behind but hold a game in hand – meaning an Avondale loss

But despite the pressure from below, Avondale still hold their destiny in their own hands. With six games to go the Avengers are in control their own fate but will face a tough run to finish on top, with five of their last six games against teams in the top half of the table.
