Avondale put Knights to the sword

Our senior men’s team extended their unbeaten streak to 15 games with a dominant 2-0 win over the Melbourne Knights last Friday night at Knights Stadium.

A scorching strike from Yitay Towns shortly after half time gave Avondale a well-deserved lead before Joey Katebian scored in stoppage time to clinch a crucial three points.

The result sees Avondale extend their lead on top of the table, with the Avengers now five points clear of second-placed Oakleigh and third-placed Bentleigh after 15 games.

The Avengers dictated the tempo and controlled possession throughout the game, creating a number of great scoring chances and really limiting the Knights.

Stefan Valentini had a goal-bound effort cleared off the line by a defender and another shot that fizzed just wide of the post, while a free kick from Kristian Trajceski smacked into the crossbar.

At the other end of the pitch Avondale‘s defence put in a stellar effort, limiting the Knights to just two shots all game, with only one of those on target.
