A win for either Avondale FC or Bentleigh Greens SC would see the victor moving on to the NPL Victoria Grand Final at AAMI Park.
The final game of the home and away regular season saw Avondale FC take on an understrength Heidelberg United FC after already claiming their title and a midweek FFA Cup fixture.
After a win midweek to send Avondale FC to the FFA Cup Quarterfinals, it was a return to NPL Victoria action against historic club South Melbourne FC.
It was another chance for Avondale FC to create even more history in Season 2018 as they took on Tasmanian NPL outfit Devonport Strikers FC in the FFA Cup Round of 16.
It was a second consecutive match at Avenger Park, which saw Avondale FC host Bentleigh Greens SC, in what was touted as the battle for second place in NPL Victoria for Season 2018.
With Bentleigh Greens SC only earning one point in their draw on Friday night it was an opportunity for Avondale FC to move into second place if they were to secure all three points against an in-form Melbourne Knights FC on Saturday afternoon.
The club’s midweek win in the FFA Cup Round of 32 against Marconi FC meant we were through to the last 16 clubs of Australia, but it was back to league business on Saturday afternoon taking on Northcote City FC.
Avondale FC confirmed its progression to the Round of 16 after defeating Marconi Stallions 4-1 in the FFA Cup on Wednesday night.
For the second Friday night in a row, we were on the road again, this time a little closer to home, taking on Pascoe Vale FC at CB Smith Reserve, Fawkner.
Coming off the back of our first win at our new home in Avenger Park, Avondale FC traveled to the south-east to take on Oakleigh Cannons FC.
